Yep, this proved it, Shingetsu was really lost. He had assured his parents that he would have been fine returning back to the room on his own after the meal was done to not rely on them, and here he was, in what appeared to be where the servants seemed to go. He was probably not allowed here, and the pressure that he felt at being considered old enough to get back on his own was getting to him. The blue-haired boy shuddered, and fell to his knees. "Please..." he choked out. Please don't let this mistake lower your expectations of me...
He heard footsteps after about a minute of crying and staggered to his feet, trying to not seem like a child. "I-I'm sorry... I got lost..." He tried wiping at his eyes. "I... I didn't mean to come in here."

Finally on break after having finished helping prepare for the guest's lunch, Toma had planned to relax a little, maybe start on a letter to his family (he missed them dearly), but as he approached the break room, he heard small distressed sounds, like the sounds of someone who was trying not to cry. Concerned, he picked up his pace, expecting to find one of the new maids fighting homesickness, perhaps, but was surprised to find the son of some of their guests.
The mansion was so large, it was easy to get lost if you didn't know it well. "It's all right. I'm not mad." Crouching down to the boy's level, Toma gave him a warm smile, trying to reassure him. "You're not in any trouble, so don't worry. If you're lost, I can help you find where you need to go, okay?" He took a handkerchief out of his back pocket and held it out to the other. "You should probably clean your face first though."

The part of Shingetsu who was afraid of being pitied gave out to the more prevalent side that didn't want to be abandoned. And at least this older person was being kind to him, which reminded him of that kind older girl who had helped him so long ago. The young boy took the handkerchief and wiped at his eyes. "Th-thanks..."
Such kindness, Shingetsu had only come across recently in his short life. "I... I would like that. Your help getting back to... my mom..." He gripped the handkerchief tightly. "My mother is Shizuka Hoshijo... I'm Nagisa, but I also go by my old last name, Shingetsu."

Toma was glad to see the boy calm down quickly. "You're welcome." Finding him crying alone here somehow reminded Toma of his younger step-sister when they were children and he felt a familiar brotherly affection. He really was going to have to write to his family later.
"Hoshijo-sama... I'm not sure where she went after lunch, but I'll help you look for her, all right?" He gave a small grin. "My name is Toma. It's nice to be properly introduced."

"Thank you.... Big Brother Toma," Shingetsu said suddenly this bit of kindness allowing him to slip back to the age he really was. If he knew anything, it was that kind people and kind days weren't always going to be around, so it was best to make the fullest of those kind times. Or maybe it was happy days. Either way, he felt the need to be by the older boy's side. He'd mentally chastise himself for being so childish later.
Shingetsu thought for a bit, and added, "My mother doesn't resemble me much since she adopted me, but I love her still. I'd say her hair's like a pale yellow or gray and she has blue eyes. She doesn't look Japanese, but her father was American."

Toma gave Shingetsu a warm smile and reached over to pat him on the head gently. "Your welcome. Let's go find her then." He was probably being a little too friendly with a guest, even if the boy was a child, but Toma couldn't help himself. Somehow, he always remembered to be a brother before a butler.
"So she's a half?" he mused aloud. "Oh! Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course." He laughed awkwardly. "People tell me I don't look Japanese either. It's the blond hair, isn't it?"

The head pat took Shingetsu by surprise and he touched his head, feeling relaxed at the touch. The Hoshijos were warm and welcoming, but didn't push Shingetsu to be open to touch, letting him come to then and open up as he felt safe with them. This approach from an older person... he was surprised he didn't hate it. He'd always wished someone older could have protected him when his biological relatives were destroying him from the inside out, so maybe it was a sort of wish fulfillment?
"She is, and she seems to take it as a source of pride. She's extremely close with her father, if that says anything. It's not a bad thing, not seeming Japanese, at least to me it isn't. You and my mother are really nice, and that's what matters to me," Shingetsu said as pushed his fingers together shyly.

Toma withdrew his hand quickly, seeing the surprise on the younger boy's face. He should know better by now than to touch strangers, even if they are children. Somehow though, the blond still had trouble reigning in his brotherly side.
"Ah, of course. I apologize if I was rude. I didn't mean to imply that there's anything wrong with not seeming or even not being Japanese. I'm sure Hoshijo-sama is a lovely person." He flustered a bit but reigned himself in and gave another smile. "It seems like you really care for her, so I'm sure she must be a warm person then."

Shingetsu stammered out, "I-I... I d-didn't see it as rude at all, I-I'm sorry if it seemed that way...!" He really had a sharp tongue for a young boy, and he generally didn't notice it until somebody reacted. "I-I've got a tin ear to feelings, I've been told. I apologize."
A thought of Shizuka Hoshijo flashed through his mind, and he felt calmer. "She's so much nicer than my old parents were. She still does mom things, but looks out for me and is gentle with me, kind of like you are, Sir..."
