Shingetsu cracked open a book as he sat in the Archives, trying to settle himself among all the people. There were far too many older people for this celebration for his comfort, and though Shingetsu's new mother and father had said he didn't have to interact with all the older people, he had done so for the sake of his new family. It was particularly taxing on his mental health, so Shizuka let Shingetsu have some time to himself. The Archives had interested him earlier, so here he was, reading up on Ayashima's history to come off as an intelligent child to the older people and make his parents proud. They hadn't physically asked him that, but Shingetsu felt that he needed to perform well as their son.
It was getting close to midnight, and Shingetsu was getting sleepy to the point he was dozing off a bit. He picked his book up and left the Archives, and immediately found himself lost. His childish fear got the best of him, and he started trying to feel along the walls to try to get back to the room when he bumped into somebody. "AH!!!" He quietly cursed himself once he realized that the person he bumped into was a kid near his age. "I-I'm terribly sorry.... I was... well, I got lost..."

Will blinked sleepily, having gotten out of bed to try and find the kitchen to get a midnight snack, as the blue haired boy kept stammering at him. He shrugged a bit and responded with a soft voice. "Hey it's okay. This is a pretty big place. I'm still trying to find everything myself."
The boy seemed so nervous, he kinda reminded Will of himself when he was younger. How.. cute! Easy there. "I was on my way to the kitchen, but I could try to help you get where you're going, if you want that is."

Shingetsu looked relaxed for a moment, grateful that the other kid on the island was pretty sympathetic to him. "I... I'd be grateful for your help... I got so caught up in the books in the Archives, ha ha..." He clutched at his yellow scarf, flashing the other kid a smile. "Thanks. I think you're the first person I've met here who's not over fourteen here." There was that one maid who was fourteen, but obviously Shingetsu couldn't interact with her the way he could with a kid who was a guest.
He fidgeted with his hands. "Um.... I'm Nagisa Shinge-I mean, Nagisa Hoshijo, but you're welcome to call me by my old last name, Shingetsu. Or whatever you like."

"Nagisa. That's a nice name! I haven't heard anything like it before!" He grinned, a bit of his American accent slipping in, the Indiana drawl weaving in his words like thread in a cross stitch. He offered a hand for Nagisa to take, a soft smile on his face. "Where were you heading?"

Shingetsu took the other boy's hand, remarkably intrigued by the other boy's accent. "I.... I was planning just to head back to the room I was staying in, but I'm not opposed to going to the kitchen with you. I'd rather be around someone my age than with a... an adult." He wouldn't lie to himself, though, that he liked the warmth he felt from the other boy's hand. Perhaps there was a certain warmth in there that he was a stranger to, and maybe he had touched on it long ago... but the crush he had, well, it certainly turned out as bad as his relationship with his biological parents. In any case, that warmth he felt from the other boy's hand strangely made him feel safe.

"I know the feeling.. C'mon, I think it's this way." Will replied, leading Nagisa towards where he assumed the kitchen to be. Oh boy did he understand not wanting to be around adults. Sure his mother was a good person, even if she was neurotic and anxious, but his father was a different story. He tried to distance himself from the thoughts of that jerk, focus on what he was doing right now. Getting food and staying by this new kid.

For a moment, Shingetsu wondered if this other boy had gone through a similar situation that Shingetsu had, but he shuddered at the thought of what his parents had done to him, and chose to stay close by the other boy's side. "Um... I don't think I caught your name... I don't want to keep calling you just 'you', after all..." Shingetsu said after a bit. His free hand gripped his scarf tightly, having felt a slight chill. It was probably the wind, he thought, and not anything like the demons or witch the servants had talked about earlier.

"Huh? Oh my name's Will. It's nice to meet you." He smiled softly as he lead the boy into the kitchen. "Ah! Here we are. Are you hungry at all?" He asked with a soft voice, a bright smile on his face. He was so excited to finally find someone his age here. Sure there were slightly older kids, but they were all closer to JD's age, so it was nice to finally talk to someone his own age.

"Will... it's a nice name, Will-san," Shingetsu said softly. The name rolled off his tongue softly. As he stepped into the kitchen with Will, Nagisa rubbed the back of his head. "I could go for a snack. I'm not terribly hungry, but I could eat something, to be honest." Nagisa hadn't interacted with much of the adults due to his fear of them, but at least some of the servants had been particularly nice, and he had met Will. So this trip with his mother hadn't turned out too bad, even with the ominous feeling he felt at the back of his mind.

Will began to check the cupboards to see if any of them held any good food. He pouted a bit, noticing a lot of the food items required intense cooking and it was very late so those wouldn't be an option. Weren't there any snack foods? "Well this is bothersome..."

From the looks of it, this island kitchen didn't have anything that was considered snack food, which was probably a choice on the staff to keep it looking high class, but it was definitely not a good idea for a couple of pre-teen boys who just wanted a snack. And since Nagisa didn't want to talk to any older people, this was going to be a problem. "Hm... maybe if we find the room my mom and I are staying, she could give us some late night snacks? My mom's generally really prepared for this kind of stuff, since she always has wanted a son," Shingetsu suggested. "I'm sure she wouldn't mind, Will-san. Plus, I think she'd enjoy meeting you." Shizuka had tried her best to not forcefully push Shingetsu into making friends, but she'd made it no secret that she wanted her son to be happy.

"Okay!" Will smiled brightly, excited to meet her. He wasn't AS apprehensive with female adults, so Nagisa's mother wouldn't be bad, if Nagisa liked her, he would too! He took Nagisa's hand smiling brightly. "Lead the way."

Nagis scratched his head, hoping that Shizuka would be forgiving to him for being out so late. The ghost stories he'd heard from the servants earlier were worrying, since they said they tried not to be awake in the house or mansion around midnight. He led Will up a flight of stairs, and headed towards a room with a light shining out into the hall. "I know that the stories the servants were telling earlier were probably just for fun... but when it's dark like this, if a woman like the one in the picture popped up and scared us, I'd consider it a possibility."

Will nodded understandingly. "Yeah, honestly this place is really spooky at night. Kinda reminds me of Blair Witch, like my brother snuck me out to see one afternoon with Veronica. Or was it more like the Exorcist..." Will mumbled, trailing off as his eyes caught a glimpse of the Witch's portrait. How creepy...

"I've... heard of those movies before... I never really got to watch movies before I started living with Shizuka-san, I mean Mom," Nagisa admitted. The closest he could admit to enjoying anything horror was reading stories by Poe or Lovecraft, or the few times he was allowed to play video games, and his life before becoming a Hoshijo was far scarier than anything he'd ever read or played. "If she even existed... that epitaph under that picture seems scarier than the possibility of her jumping up to scare us..."
