With the light extinguished due to the murder of one of the happier guests, tensions began to grow high amongst the remaining people on the island who weren't demons or witches. Conflicts often erupted into near physical fights, and even if people broke the fights up, the damage still remained. The day faded into the night of the fifth twilight, and the fifth day passed into the sixth.
The sixth day dawned, and the few living servants who were on kitchen duty happened upon an almost touching sight in the kitchen. Two young guests were seated in chairs near the refrigerator, looking quite asleep. Closer examination of the young guests revealed them to be Nagisa Hoshijo and Will Byers, and the two of them looked to be holding hands in their sleep, Nagisa resting his head on Will's while Will rested his head on Nagisa's shoulder. However, that peace was disturbed by the stake sticking out of Will's stomach and the stake gouged in Nagisa's knee. Both boys had some sort of dried foam on the edge of their mouths. On the counter behind them rested two empty tea cups on saucers. The witch claimed these two young boys as the victims of the sixth and seventh twilights.
~~~
Ryouko had taken the opportunity to rise early, excited to see what victims the culprit had chosen this time around. Without a care in the world, save for a thought to her master and her crush back home, she merrily skipped into the kitchen after hearing the commotion about the murders, and callously began examining the bodies. "Hm... these boys were definitely staked after their deaths. Most likely, with the teacups behind them, the culprit poisoned the tea and gave the boys the poisoned tea, then positioned them this way. I conclude that especially with the death of that girl yesterday, the culprit is hesitant about murdering children in a gruesome way." Thankfully for herself, she remembered that she had the Detective's Authority, and could verify their cause of death on her own. She rested her hand on her chest and proclaimed with a wide grin, "Simply by this analysis, this line of reasoning is possible for Otonashi Ryouko. What do you think, everybody?"
JD was speechless, eyes wide and shaken to his very core. His brother. Dead. No. No no no nonononononononononono THIS WASN'T HAPPENING!!!!!! Joyce said to protect him goddamnit!! HE NEEDED TO BE ALIVE!!!!!!!!!! And this GIRL. She was so callous in regards to his dead brother. She had to pay.
Veronica stood quickly in front of JD, seeing the look in his eyes. "JD, I swear to god, you better not try anything-" Before she could say anything more, he quickly moved her out of the way, grabbing a kitchen knife. He grabbed Ryouko's arm and held it down onto the counter and shoved it deep into her hand, pinning her to the counter. The blood that shot out in no way hindered his progress as he grabbed a meat tenderizer from next to the cutting board.
Raising it high above his head, he brought it down hard on the red head's skull, over and over, blood coating the cooking implement. Ryouko was no longer moving but JD gave three more good wacks to the skull, before finally stopping, chest heaving from exertion and a crazed look in his eyes.
"Anyone else wanna say something shitty about my brother??"
Tsumiki Mikan stared at the corpses, trying to blink back any tears that were trying to form from staring at the two corpses. They were only children... why did whoever the culprit had been have to be so cruel. Surely he or she would have spared the children... and they were so young. Almost as young as the other child who had died just the other day. Her mistress had told her that the culprit merely wanted to cause discord by killing what seemed to be the happiest child first. Soon, the nurse couldn't hold back any more tears before starting to wail like a feline in heat.
In midst of her grief for the three children, she noticed the foam from the boys' mouths. Mikan scraped some off the blue-haired boy's chin and put it in some bandages that she was carrying. She then heard something. The older boy, who looked related to one of them, stabbed the redhead's hand and continued to bash her. She immediately fell in front of the unconscious girl. "Oh... my... I'M SO SORRYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! IT'S ALL MY FAULT...." She continued caterwauling over the potentially three corpses.
Hanayo had walked into the kitchen shortly before Ryouko was brutally murdered, and had only managed to cover her eyes shortly before the meat hammer came down on the girl's head. Things were definitely turning for the worse, what with the other kids dead and now a girl only two years older than her dead. She'd thought that her favorite manga had prepared her for such dark matter, but it was nothing compared to experiencing it in real life. She made a mental note that if she survived this and wasn't completely traumatized, to go meet Kishibe-sensei and Tengoku-sensei and give them references.
"This... this is too cruel..." Hanayo choked out, tears coming out for the three dead people in the room.
It was official. Mikan's hands caressed the lifeless corpse of Ryouko Otonashi, and her wailing could do nothing to bring her back. She wasn't Eli or a witch, nor should she ever be. The detective and the nurse didn't have the most amicable relationship - to be honest who did get along with her - but she still missed her terribly. This was all her fault. If she hadn't focused on the boy's lips, she could have received the blows from Jason Dean. Conversely, to quote the deceased, it had nothing to do with her. Did it? She scraped by and picked up the notebook the girl had huddled close to her and started to read from it.
"What the hell-?!" As usual, a certain young, brown haired detective was once again late to the party, busting through the kitchen doors after hearing a dull 'crack'. She had been walking by with Seiya, whom peeked into the room from behind her. Both of their eyes widened at the sight of all the blood, but Seiya was the only one to jump into action, running over to Ryouko and raising his hands, as if opting to try to touch her deceased body, but a sudden tug away by the back of his shirt from Cry made him think otherwise.
Letting out a soft sigh, Cry allowed her eyes to wander the room slowly, her honey brown orbs soon then landing on Veronica. "I'm going to need everyone out of the room so I may examine the bodies. I'm sorry for your losses..." After she released the back of Seiya's shirt, he simply stared at the lifeless bodies in front of him before Cry nudged him back to reality. The male nodded, then made his way over toward Hanayo and holding out his hand, offering to lead her out.
"I'll find out whoever- or whatever- did this. I promise you," she said, then turned toward the bodies, frowning silently. Starting at Ryouko, she was hit with the realization that now, they were short one detective. Great.
JD snapped angrily at Cry. "I AM NOT LEAVING. My brother is dead and I'm not fucking leaving!!"
"JD shut the hell up." Veronica snapped back at him, then stood by Cry. "I'll help investigate, okay? Will was my friend, I want to get to the bottom of this."
With a soft sigh at JD's outburst, the brunette then nodded towards Veronica. "Understandable. I suppose he can stay as well to mourn his brother, but I'd appreciate it if he wouldn't snap on me as I touch his brother's body to find out exactly what happened...," she said quietly, averting her eyes to look over towards Ryouko's body.
Seiya slunk away from the two girls, only to make his way over to Hanayo, worry written all over his expression. "Are you alright?," he asked, though he probably already knew the answer. The blond then offered a gentle smile, hoping to bring her some happiness in these trying times. Holding his hand out to her, he tilted his head slightly. "We should give them some space. Come on, its a little stuffy in here."
"It.. it.. it is getting kind of stuffy in here," Mikan agreed as she looked up from the detective's notebook. "Go on without me please... I can stay and help Jason... if you want. I'm no therapist, but I'll try my best! I will! Please!!" She pleaded to the point of her crying as heavily as she had been doing much earlier.
Cry didn't bode well with wailing, so as soon as she started crying again, Cry immediately snatched the book away from MIKAN. She was about to snap at the wailing girl, but she stopped herself, taking in a deep breath. "... I think it would be better if you left. Please. Noise makes me lose my concentration," she said calmly, trying not to agitate the girl any further. "Do not touch the bodies, do not... Just, do not." She thought she handled that pretty well.
Seeing that Cry was obviously getting increasingly irritated, Seiya offered his hand to Mikan as well. "Let's all just... Head somewhere else to calm down, alright ladies?" Not speaking to Veronica or Cry, of course.
Hanayo took Seiya's hand, desperately rubbing at her eyes with her free hand. A brief thought ran through her head in that the dead girl had mentioned her favorite manga artist's name a few days earlier. Perhaps she was his acquaintance? "Th-thank you, Seiya-kun..." She looked briefly over at the brown-haired detective. "Um... Ryouko-chan... mentioned the other day... th-that she had feelings for someone..." She squeaked out, and took a deep breath to try to calm herself. "If... If I'm not mistaken... that very person is the manga artist I'm a big fan of, Kishibe Rohan-sensei, since he's the only person who matches that description..." No doubt that the detective would probably confirm that in Miss Otonashi's notebook, along with probably any observations, since the now deceased girl was always jotting in her notebooks. Something told her that if this were a game, she might have imparted some important information, but for now, she was doing her best to steel her nerves and not look at the three corpses.
